Hi all,
We now have a research and development blog @ blog.networked-newsroom.org. We hope to share our research notes on citizen journalism and related topics and progresses in our technical development.
“Networked Newsroom” is a new digital imitative for community-based news organizations and school journalism classrooms. This web-based software tends to create an enhanced communication module for community reporters and students who are gathering their news sources outside of a traditional newsroom setting. The software will potentially enable reporters at large to update their interview calenders, story developments, links, requests for correspondent information, sound recordings and video clips to an integrated platform. Editors and other fellow reporters can make timely responses to the updates, offer help or insights, and participate in the story development process. Responses can be both text messaged or emailed to each individual reporter.
Editors are not only able to distribute story leads to fellow reporters, but also to revise copies inside this privacy-enabled web platform, marking changes, revisions and advices. The editorial process will be visible to the story writer and prompt learning experience.
“Networked Newsroom” is an enhanced digital tool of communication ideal for journalist groups without a physical hub of communication. It is ideal for community-based citizen journalist groups, journalism student groups in both online or print reporting classes and a collective base of freelance reporters.
This project is currently under development and will be available in early 2010.
“Networked Newsroom” is currently searching for collaborative partnership with community-based publications , hyperlocal news portals, and Journalism Schools as test grounds for our development.
